Director and Studio Reactions

Following the massive success of Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, both the production team and the studio expressed deep satisfaction and pride in how audiences worldwide responded to the film.

Director Tatsuya Yoshihara shared that working on the movie was one of the most inspiring experiences in his career. He mentioned that every member of the team brought incredible passion to the project, pushing the limits of what MAPPA could achieve visually and emotionally.

“Everyone poured their heart into this film. We wanted to create something that felt both violent and beautiful a story where love and chaos collide,” Yoshihara said in an interview with Mantan Web Japan.

He also noted that the team intentionally focused on showing Reze’s gentle side while maintaining the raw brutality that defines the Chainsaw Man universe:

“Reze had to look cute, yet her presence needed to feel dangerous. Balancing those emotions was one of the biggest challenges,” Yoshihara added.

Meanwhile, MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka commented on the studio’s decision to make Reze Arc a full theatrical release rather than a TV continuation. According to him, the emotional depth and visual intensity of the arc made it perfect for the big screen.

“From the beginning, we knew this story belonged in theaters. The Reze Arc has cinematic energy it deserved to be experienced as a film, not just another episode,” Otsuka explained.

Yoshihara later described Reze Arc as “a completely new genre,” blending romance, action, and chaos in one emotional rollercoaster.

“In Reze Arc, a completely new genre is born: love, violence, action, romance, and yes a shark,” he joked during a press event, referring to the fan favorite character

Both Yoshihara and Otsuka thanked fans for their overwhelming support, saying that the film’s success was proof that emotional storytelling and bold animation could still move global audiences.
